Streaming Device Limits for Tablo, Amazon Recast other Streaming TV Services

Similar to Netflix, all streaming services and even the Tablo & Amazon Recast for the free local antenna channels have limits of how many devices/TVs can access it at the same time. Yes, saving $1,500+ every year vs your old Cable TV bundle does have a few changes or sacrifices. This is a per service limitation, so you can still watch different things on different TVs at the same time with different services... 2 Live antenna channels on the Tablo/Recast, another on Netflix, Prime, Sling, etc. The other services have different streaming limits depending on the service and the package you have.

The 2 tuner Tablo or Amazon Recast shares 2 tuners. IE You can watch live Free Antenna TV on 2 devices at the same time OR you can record 2 programs at the same time OR you can watch 1 live while recording 1 live at the same time. If you have Sling it varies per package channel, but you can ask Sling Support for details. You can contact the provider or hardware manufacturer for more details on their limits.

Unless you have a huge family this should rarely be an issue, but here are some common things that you can do to avoid "Max Number of Devices" Errors:
  1. Make sure everyone in the family is hitting the home or back button on the Fire TV remote when they are done watching TV.  This ensures the program isn't still going in the background when the TV is self is powered off. Just because the TV is off, the Fire TV might still be streaming from the Recast, Netflix, etv. This fixes 90% of issues.
  2. If that doesn't seem to do the trick you can power cycle the Fire TV on each TV and reboot the Recast.
  3. Set up a recording if you happen to have a 3rd program you need to watch and simply watch it later.
  4. Make sure you haven't shared your login info with too many people that are all trying to stream at the same time.
  5. Watch different TV sources on different TVs.  One TV on Antenna/Recast, another on Netflix, Prime, Sling, etc.
