iPhone WiFi - Weak Security

iPhone WiFi - Weak Security

If you recently updated your iPhone to iOS14, and you are using the Deco WiFi system from TP-Link, you may have received a message that says:

Weak Security
WPA/WPA2 (TKIP) is not considered secure.
If this is your Wi-Fi network, configure the router to use the WPA2 (AES) or WPA3 security type.

The Deco system that StreamWise Solutions installs does support WPA2-PSK [AES] security, but it also supports the older WPA-PSK [TKIP].

TP-Link released a new Deco firmware on 10/13/2020 that address the "Weak Security" message by changing the network security of your WiFi network to WPA2-PSK [AES] only.

Follow these instructions to update the Deco firmware via the Deco app on your phone/tablet. Your StreamWise Solutions installer should have installed the Deco app on your device, and left you with your TP-Link login and password (this is different from your WiFi login and password).

After the firmware update, it should default the network to WPA2-PSK [AES] security which is what you want, but if you have some older devices on your network that cannot do this WPA2-PSK [AES], you will need to change back to WPA2-PSK [AES] + WPA-PSK [TKIP]. If you need to change the security type, you can do that from the Deco App: MORE->Wi-Fi, tap the Password box and you will be able to change the Security to the desired security type.

Alternately, if you'd like us to do this update (we might be able to do it remotely), contact us and we can get you some pricing.
