Amazon Fire TV Stick Swap

Amazon Fire TV Stick Swap

If you suspect you may have a bad Fire Stick, or if you are having a problem with a Fire TV remote, and you have more than 1 Fire TV stick in your home, you can try swapping them and see if the problem persists.

To swap the Fire Sticks:
  1. Unplug the suspected "bad" Fire Stick from the TV you are having problems. Leave cables in place (power and mini HDMI if present).
  2. Take suspected "bad" Fire Stick and the remote that works with that Fire Stick and bring to location where there is a known working Fire Stick.  Do not get remotes mixed-up.
  3. Remove known working Fire Stick from other TV (leave cables in place).
  4. Take known "good" Fire Stick and the remote that works with that Fire Stick and bring to location where you were having problems.
  5. Plug "good" fire stick in to power and TV
  6. When Fire Stick Boots, program remote to work with new TV: Settings > Equipment Control > Manage Equipment > TV > Change TV > Change TV
  7. Go through the Guided Setup to pair remote with TV
  8. If you have a soundbar, or advanced stereo equipment, you will need to add audio for that equipment as well
  9. Go to room with where you set-aside suspected "bad" Fire Stick
  10. Plug "bad" Fire Stick into power and TV and repeat step 6-8
  11. Go to room where you were having problems before and see if problems persist.
  12. Go to room that was working fine and see if you have the same problems.
If the problem persists on the TV that now has the known "good" Fire Stick, there may be a problem with the WiFi connection in the location (shows won't load), or, there may be a problem with the TV itself (i.e. nothing on screen). If you suspect the TV is the problem, try changing inputs on the TV before doing any other troubleshooting.
